It had already spent decades holding its place on a sleeve, with a strong profile, deep feather texture, and a beak that looked like it should be carrying something more interesting than a buttonhole.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI rebuilt it into a pendant in 18K gold using a separately sourced bail and twisted rope jump ring. The star sapphire in set in base of the eagle's head is in pristine condition. As the stone moves through the light, a six-rayed star appears across its surface and disappears again just as quickly.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe original cufflink texture is still there. I kept the ridges, the shadows, and the evidence of age rather than sanding the piece down to something anonymous. The point was never to erase its first life.
