I grew up in 1980's in New York City where oversized gold rope chains were part of hip-hop’s iconic visual language. Run-DMC, along with other rappers, wore them huge and unapologetic as part of a look. This Black urban style went on to permanently alter global fashion. The thick rope chain became known in hip-hop culture as the dookie chain: gold worn as a declaration, not an accessory.
Hip-hop took traditional symbols of wealth and remade them without asking permission. The gold chain stopped being about fitting into someone else's definition of luxury and became about declaring your own. That is exactly what Anomaly Relic's jewelry is also about and it is why I wear my own vintage Dookie Chain regularly.
This version is made in 18K gold. It doesn't whisper or disappear into an outfit. You put it on and everything around it has to adjust.
Care
18K gold is durable and doesn't tarnish, but it will collect the oils and residue of daily wear over time. Wipe with a soft cloth to keep the polish sharp. Keep away from chlorinated water and harsh chemicals. Store flat or coiled to protect the links.
